Welcome to THE McVEIGH AGENCY, a boutique literary agency handling writers, illustrators, photographers, and graphic novelists for both the adult and children’s markets.
My goal as an agent is to help people with a creative vision find a home for their work at a publishing house. Since I’ve worked in the field for so long, I know just about every established editor and have always kept my eye on the promising newcomer, for today’s editorial assistant is tomorrow’s editorial director!
Here at THE MCVEIGH AGENCY, I operate on a few simple concepts:
- If your work has a unique voice or look and something important to say, I will do everything I can to help you shape your project so that we can find a home for it at a publishing house.
- Writers and artists are undervalued in this society and deserve more respect and attention than they currently receive. I handle the hassles of the business side of the industry, work with publishers to seal deals that, while lucrative and fair to the creator, are also financially wise for all concerned. This is especially important in these difficult financial times. Both the client and the publisher need to feel good about how deals are handled and executed and books are published. This will ensure a long and fruitful relationship between the artist and the publishing house.
THE McVEIGH AGENCY is more than just a literary agency: it is a creative think tank. It is a place where the people I work with (and that includes the editors and art directors) can feel comfortable trying new ideas, secure in the knowledge that I will help all involved attain the best possible final book. My favorite book is the one everyone thinks can’t be done! From my experience as an editorial director at a major publishing house to my years as an inner-city sixth grade teacher, I have learned how to mediate even the most difficult situations in a way that makes everyone as happy as possible.
- THE McVEIGH AGENCY does things that others think can’t be done. From selling a book that breaks totally new ground to seeking corporate funding for an expensive but worthy publishing endeavor, I’m ready to jump in and make things happen. We have entered a time of trying new ways because the old ways just don’t work anymore! I truly believe this, and if you feel the same way, then you should join us in this great adventure!
So, onward and upward to new heights!
All the best, Mark McVeigh
